The Bible is a work of literature with God using multiple literary types or genres to convey His truth. One of them is poetry. Although I have never been a big fan of poetry, it seems that God loves poetry, as the Bible is filled with it. The Psalms, Song of Solomon and Proverbs are wholly poetic; and the books of Job, Ecclesiastes and much of the prophetic literature are filled with poetry, Hebrew poetry, which is structurally different from much of English poetry. I would encourage you to pursue an understanding of how to rightly read Hebrew poetry to better understand what God has revealed within this genre.
In the meantime, you will find two simple English style poems written by my friend and brother in Christ, Jerry Truss. Jerry has published two books of his poems, “Poems of the Lord” and “Poems of the Lord II”, to glorify God and encourage His people. They are published through Trafford Publishing.
” ALL GLORY “
All glory goes
To the Father and Son
The Holy Spirit
Three in one
Seek His kingdom
Without ceasing
The peace of God
You will start reaping
You’ll never find
A better time
Hold to Christ
When He comes to mind
Put that note
On the door
Before you leave
Pray once more
The only way
To the Father
Is through His Son
Or don’t even bother
Gather around
In fervent prayer
Because the Lord
Is always there
Where two or three
Come together
He’ll be right there
It is His pleasure
He sometimes starts
Very subtle
Behind the scenes
Where we can’t muddle
Then other times
He seems to move slow
Just be patient
He won’t let go
There’s many times
And this is a fact
You get your answer
Just like that !. . .G.M.T.3-28-17.
” MY ONLY FRIEND “
As I walk through life
I follow Him
With all my heart
The best I kin
He is my one
And only sanctuary
Throughout the day
We talk and tarry
The safest place
I’ll ever be
Is right here
With the Lord in Me
He sticks closer
Than a brother
Truth be known
He’s like no other
He always will
And He’s always been
And at one point
My only friend
There are no words
That can describe
The love I feel
Deep inside…G.M.T.4-8-13.
